Drink Driving Limits
I’ve blogged previously on how the blood alcohol level of most drivers involved in accidents is well above the current limit of 80 – most are around double. And only a very few are in the 50 – 80 range which the Police want it lowered to. And some of them were young drivers who were already breaking the law as their limit is already below 50.
Now the National road policing manager Superintendent Dave Cliff says the number of drink-drive prosecutions was rising by 1000 a year, and the percentage of drivers caught drunk behind the wheel had also increased, and hence the legal limit should be lowered.
Now wait just a second. What sort of logic is this? The current law is being flouted by an increasing number of people. And the Police response is to change the law so even more people will be breaking it??? Surely the response should be to crack down and enforce the current law even more.
