Sedition laws to go
NZPA is reporting that the Government has agreed with the Law Commission to scrap the sedition laws. This is excellent news.
Parties in favour of scrapping are:
Labour 48
Greens 6
Maori 4
United 3
ACT 2
Progressive 1
So an easy 64/121 votes. As far as I know National and NZ First have not yet declared a position. I won’t be surprised if it ends up being supported by all eight parties.
No Right Turn deserves kudos for his research and tireless blogging of this area. Tim Selwyn also for being the sacrificial lamb which reignited the debate.
