Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed that public consultation on co-governance with Māori will begin later in 2022.
“Phase one of consultation is going out to all New Zealanders and that’ll be happening over the course of this year,” Ardern said [March 29, 2022]

Some tribal leaders meeting in Taupō are slamming a proposal by three mayors to replace the Government’s Three Waters plan.
The National Iwi Leaders Chairs Forum in Taupō. Seventy iwi members who’ve come together to tackle various issues, including the call by the mayors of Auckland, Christchurch and Waimakariri to replace Three Waters with a new plan – which hasn’t been received well.
“I don’t know which world they belong to, this is 2022 Aotearoa New Zealand, this is about partnership,” Waikato-Tainui chairperson Tukoroirangi Morgan said.
… “We will never be denied, we will never go silently in the night, our voice must be heard at the table and we must take our place, end of story,” Morgan said.

■ So far the “wider (full) public consultation process on the draft Declaration Plan” is starting to look like the “nation-wide ‘conversation” that we didn’t have on the Capital Gains Tax” where Ardern’s Labour Government never stated a clear position to really discuss. So media and “interested other parties” filled the void, for a few frantic weeks, and then Ardern decided she had no mandate, from Parliamentary Parties or general New Zealanders, and kicked Capital Gains Tax out of the ball-park for as long as she is in it.

■ So, with Tukoroirangi Morgan demanding to be heard, “we will never go silently in the night”, many ordinary New Zealanders will not want to do that – go silently – either.
Jacinda needs to send Willie Jackson out with a precise definition of “co-governance”, and do it soon already.

■ Some have started the “conversation” without Jacinda –
Tuku Morgan (Waikato Tainui), is a member of the Three Waters working group who in March dismissed claims that Māori would own the country’s water infrastructure under the reforms. “There is a view being promoted by some of the councillors around the country that this is a Māori grab for power, that we are interested in owning these water assets,” he told 1News. “It’s absolute nonsense. We have always said, that we’re not interested in owning the water assets. It will be very interesting to see how Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern defines “Co-governance”.
And this time it will have to be a bit more substantial than “When you see it, you will know it”.
By the time you see “co-governance” it may be a little late, depending on your view of it.

And if “co-governance” is the next bus stop in a journey that has to be made, what is the real destination, and can Ardern confirm and define that as well?

  Clearly the mayors have struck a nerve, and the subversive agenda of Mahuta et:al is being exposed and those pushing this secretive agenda are spitting the dummy.
  If anyone can pin Ardern down, she needs to explain in simple language what her view of co-governance is. There seems to be numerous distractions appearing, but I get the sense wider public interest is growing and people aren’t happy so pressure going to rise on Ardern, Robertson and Mahuta.

        “No one owns water” is simple and powerful, but not actually very helpful. Ownership establishes rights and responsibilities which cannot be assigned to “no one”. Somebody’s got to decide who’s allowed to use it and under what terms, who has to keep it clean, stop it doing damage, who can move it from here to there, for what purposes and under what conditions, who can add other substances to it, how much and when, etc etc etc. These are not roles for which “NO ONE” is a credible candidate.

  We are being assured by politicians on the left, academics et al that we have nothing to fear from cogovernance. Also that if we fear it it’s because we don’t understand it.
  
  When we get an explanation on what it is we are fobbed off with platitudes like “it’s about sharing power, or, collaboration, or, consensus”.
  
  Ardern will not define it because she knows the uproar would become deafening.
  
  At the beginning of this year she asked “what is wrong with cogovernance?” She must live in a bubble. Usually in the absence of truth people will invent fiction. In the case of cogovernance the truth will be stranger and more alarming than fiction could ever be.

    One could say as a dispassionate observer, that the Labour Party and current Government are both experiencing co-governance with regard to their own affairs.
    How is that working out for them? (and us)
    We see disfunction and contradiction on a daily basis, re-definition of what is “proper” constantly, inability to deliver even on earnest promises and forcing on the population of things never promised, campaigned on or even mentioned. We see the nations financial base under threat, its export industries being savaged, future energy security options put aside for spurious reasons (but personal gain appears the most likely) and vast sums of future wealth being squandered and misappropriated.
    Crisis is too small a word to use but it is the best one that fits.

  We have co-governance. It’s one person, one vote. So our Parliament is charged with representing all New Zealanders.
  
  New Zealand also has guaranteed representation for Maori in Parliament through the 7 Maori seats.

    I have searched my memory but can’t seem to recall any mention of co governance in the run up to the last or any other election. Come to think of it I can’t recall any mention of three waters or the Māori health authority and their veto. I do recall the PM stating that she had no policies because it was a Covid election and I also recall her saying that she hadn’t seen or read the He puapua document. You don’t think she’s a liar do you? I mean surely she wouldn’t deceive the New Zealand public and take advantage of the trust placed in her government during a pandemic to ram through policies that would render her unelectable?       I don’t think our PM has many clues as to the power-grab that is unfolding on her watch.
      
      She’s not the brightest button; she has bugga-all knowledge of Te ao Maori, let alone the Maori Political and Financial powerbases.
      
      She’s been a gift to the Waikato-Tainui-Auckland Urban Maori elite…. They’ve used her as a smokescreen to effect a political and financial takeover of numerous entities in NZ.

      Flip that around, did John Key mention increasing GST in the leadup to his election victory? My recollection (backed by a google search) is that he explicitly ruled it out as tax cuts, not increases were on the agenda. So was he also a liar and deceiver? Or just a politician. They ALL lie or at best omit to tell the full story then backflip once they have the cabinet benches. it goes with the territory. You just need to open both eyes (lol on this Blog) to see that it’s not a left or right issue, it’s just how politics is done.

        The GST increase was simply a way to more fairly distribute the tax take across society. Income tax rates were reduced commensurately to make the GST increase revenue neutral.
        
        It was a move designed to stop punishing those who had achieved higher salaries through hard work, often personal financial risk and effort.

    A form of co-governance is in the Treaty of Waitangi, in Article Two. But it is nothing like the co-governance that Labour and the Maori academics and elite are pushing for today.
    
    The Treaty was agreed in an environment where Maori chiefs had control of their own tribes. In terms of their tribes the chiefs were political leaders, judges, police etc all rolled into one. This was their rangatiraranga that the Article Two of the Treaty said they could “collectively or individually possess so long as it is their wish and desire to retain the same in their possession”.
    
    But collectively the chiefs could see that (a) they could not control the increasingly lawless European settlements, (b) they didn’t want to have to control the increasingly lawless European settlements and thought that was a problem for the European powers to solve, and (c) they could see the Great Powers manoeuvrings between Britain, France and the USA and needed to either pick a side or get carved up. Hence Article One of the Treaty.
    
    So the Treaty reflects the 1840 reality on the ground where there were distinct Maori tribal settlements and European settlements. It sets out a balance where Maori chiefs continue to be responsible for governing the Maori tribal settlements (rangatiratanga), and the English become responsible for governing the European settlements and dealing with the international issues (kawanatanga).
    
    But today Maori and European are intermingled, under English-type structures (ie modern life in cities under English type law). There aren’t any distinctly separate Maori settlements. Maori chiefs no longer govern their people or lands in the same way as they did in 1840 … basically their people have chosen with their feet to leave the Maori world and live in the European world (presumably because it delivers better outcomes).
    
    So the Article Two co-governance in the Treaty is an obsolete relic. Despite that, there’s a lot of academics, elites and politicians trying to breath life into it again, in some new mutant form.

        The closest (English) analogy of how the chiefs saw themselves in 1840 is as feudal Dukes like as in Tudor England or earlier.
        
        They weren’t schmucks. Several had been to England. Some had met the King. Several had passable English. They had a fair idea of what English society, culture and law meant.
        
        But they were from a feudal tribal culture, and that’s how they thought about the world.
        
        So the cleanest comparison for them in engaging with the English was that they were Dukes. They had their own land that they controlled. They could allocate the resources of that land across their tribe members/peasants. They could command their people to arms.
        
        Importantly … a feudal Duke was basically independent lord and master and lawgiver. They only got in trouble if they (a) stole from or rebelled against the King, or (b) fought with another Duke. Other than that they were independent.
        
        So Maori chiefs saw the tension between rangatiratanga and kawanatanga in large part as like comparing a Duke in feudal England vs the King.

        Important note: Even in 1840 English Dukes had largely lost those powers. And nowadays a Duke in England (and there’s hardly any, especially any outside the immediate royal family) has no special powers and basically just has inherited wealth.
        
        Oh … note that another aspect of duke-dom that aligns with chief-dom is that hereditary aspect. There was a lot about English dukedom that aligned with Maori chiefdoms, and they saw their post-Treaty relationship with the English crown in those terms.

      Article 2 reflects the well-established British practice of the time, modeled on the Roman Empire, of co-opting the local elites rather than trying to overthrow them. A course Bush should have perhaps pursued in Iraq in the wake of the 2003 invasion.
      
      Article 3 made clear that British law was extended to all the inhabitants of the colony, Maori and European alike. Serious crimes by Maori like murder were indeed dealt with under British law.

        Although, at the time of signing the Treaty in 1840 the chiefs would have expected that any crimes committed within their tribe (ie tribe member on tribe member) would be dealt with by the chief under Maori customary law.
        
        But any crimes in the European settlements were for the English police (ie the chiefs wanted nothing to do with enforcing English law on the English settlers).
        
        Not sure how they thought Maori-on-English or English-on-Maori crimes were to be treated.

      In principle I have some sympathy for Tuhoe. They didn’t sign the Treaty, have had limited investment in their tribal rohe & as a group live closer to a traditional lifestyle than anyone else.
      
      Having said that, it’s hard to see a meaningful alternative to NZ being a single country.

  Most replies to the questions asked to the MSN about the 55m with a clause were the same as the first part of the text above. Also they often have Making Aotearoa (north island) a better place in their begging banners.

Grant Robertson against shows what hypocrites this Government are after spewing his hate for the National Party by saying you can’t trust them, well that’s the pot calling the kettle in anyone’s terms.
After getting caught out doing the same in 2021 when swiping millions out of the same fund to finance promises to the Housing Excellaration Fund, Camera’s on our Fishing fleet, School Lunches in every school and every other whim or need for this Labour Government to bribe the voter he now taken 70 million dollars from the Covid-19 fund again to fuel the controversy Three Waters spend up.
The Government has tapped some $70 million of covid response and recovery money to bolster its dwindling coffers of its Three Waters Reform Program.
Robertson says you can’t trust National with their Tax cut programs but it looks and seems Grant Robertson can’t be trusted to use the money from the Covid-19 fund for what this Country set up this fund for.

  Labo govt has been captured by outside entities who are just milking this govt. Labo dont come up with anything. Proposals on spending on put to them, via govt departments, and they tick it off. The minister in charge is given bullet point list of talking points. But beyond that Labo in its offical capacity know nothing. The money is spent and forgotten quickly.
  
  The Labour cabinet are empty figure heads. They box ticking vast amounts on spending on well connected private consultants who achieve nothing with no accountability.

Aotearoavlot is now banning activated trackers like Apple airtags.

The regulation they have used to ban them is the ICAO dangerous goods regulations for lithium batteries which bans batteries with more than 2g of lithium or 100Wh energy storage.

That makes no sense at all because:
* They say it is OK if the tracker is off, but the battery regulations apply whether the device is on or off.
* The CR2032 cells typically used in these devices does not contain anywhere near 2g of lithium. The whole cell weighs just over 3g of which some is the inert metal case. The active contents is LiMnO2 – maybe 2.5g of the stuff. Lithium makes up only a tiny fraction of LiMnO2 (3g of Lithium per 3+55+2*16 = 90g of LiMnO2). There is around 0.1g of Lithium in a CR2032.

There is a solid reason for not allowing the air tags: the air tags use Bluetooth LE and when hundreds of BLE devices are in close proximity their equipment gets confused. That’s really a design problem with the baggage handling equipment.

But no, they don’t want to admit it, so lie instead.

Lufthansa had a similar ban but backtracked on it, most likely because they were told they were talking bullshit.

I really don’t have a problem with them banning AirTags, but be honest.

How can you be proud of of the figures for the unemployed at a all time low of 3.3% according to Grant Robertson when it only counts those on the Jobseeker benefit, especially when there is around 349,000 other people getting a benifit that doesn’t count those that are on the pension or solo parents benefit.p
Now I know that all Government’s do this but it seems Labour like to skite about it more than the others, but why should we keep being given manipulated figures when they are not correct.

  In a time when employers are desperate for staff, it seems this Government and its agencies haven’t got a clue how to shift 100,000 “work-ready” folk on a benefit into the arms of an employer.
  
  A few suggestions of how our Government could assist folks who want to work but lack the basic wherewithals..
  
  1. Make primary and secondary school free for all ages. (so if folks in their 20s. or 50s want to learn how to read or pass NCEA level 3 qualifications… they can return to school gratis).
  
  2. Run school classes in Evenings and holiday periods. (Why use a decent resource for only 8 hours/day, 9 months/year).
  
  3. Run HT-licence practicals free of charge
  
  4. Offer transport-free chits to work places for first 3 months of employment.

        Classes in the subject I was studying ended with Covid.
        
        The night classes and day-time classes of earlier years were great for the working class, as Maggie W. points out.
        
        For example, you could have a paying job at an accountant’s office, and study part time.
        
        People would joke about the “bike-clip accountants” – office boys who forgot to take bike clips off as they returned from university or polytechnic-equivalent.
        
        One class at Canterbury University started at 7.30am to suit office-employed students.
        
        An advantage was graduation with little or no student debt, though some did full-time study for the final year.
        
        Accountants themselves drove the move to full-time study, presumably to lift social status.

      I think a lot of night classes ending up being nice-to-have hobby classes, rather than proper educational pathways for people who missed out first time around.

  If someone surveyed is on the dole and answers “no” to “looking for work”, they are not counted as unemployed

The benchmark occupations they used have since shifted upwards which means the Nurses demands have also now shifted upwards to match. A recent poll in Scotland shows most Scots favour increasing taxes, more government spending and redistribution i.e. Scots want people who earn more than them to pay them some money, indirectly but nevertheless that what they’re voting for. By “increasing taxes” they don’t, of course, mean on them! Lot of Scots came to NZ. But we got the adventurous ones, leaving behind a lot of bludgers.

It does however make me wonder where all these lovers for diversity of thought and opinion when Whanganui-based List MP Harete Hipango when she posted a photo of herself with Voices for Freedom protesters back in January. Many of these same people saw Hipango’s FB post as nothing more than an opportunity to attack National’s then-new leadership. A number of them, including trade unionists, called for Hipango to be sacked. Whilst this is an embarrassment for Labour, for Andrew Little and for Georgie Dansey, that embarrassment will pass. Georgie will lose the by-election, and can get back to her job as an organiser for the Tertiary Education Union. But it’s delightful to watch Labour Party supporters, few in number as they still may be, dancing on the head of a pin to try and paint the candidate as some modern-day heroine, standing up against the party which only the day before had given her an opportunity. Desperation is indeed a stinky cologne!

    I work at a shelter. The “Staffie based mongrols” as you call them tend to be the best family dogs. Farm dogs are often a total shocker – Need far too much stimulation, dig up your garden, and often have too much voice and a high prey drive.
    
    I have one of each. The 2 year old 40 kg bull breed is so compliant it’s ridiculous. But he has a big head which apparently means he wants to eat children. I’ll be glad to have him with me for his look if we get to food shortages etc.

        We have homes thousands over decades with no issues. Probably 50% of them bull breeds. Equating staffies with “arseholes feral dogs” that maul others is as ignorant as calling Maori uneducated or feral.
        
        Also a statistic and a fact or two for you. The dog statistically most likely to bite a human is a Labrador (yes there are more labs than most breeds). The pitbull performs way better on American Kennel Club temperament t tests than the border collie (and many others). And the being most likely to be involved in a dog attack is a 5-10 year old male child… the likelihood well exceeds any breed that is involved.

        I agree with Hebe123 in that Staffies can be great family dogs, especially in towns.
        
        Owners are the problem with dogs. As well as under control, dogs need to be on sections with secure fencing, and must have regular exercise.
        
        Pet dogs I feel sorry for are town Collie types on tight leads getting sparse exercise and little mental stimulation.
        
        Neighbours can force town owners to “de-bark” big Huntaways, and only the best owners give urban Collies enough exercise and mental work.

  Morgan Godfrey is so odious on other matters, that I can’t agree with him – even though I have to wonder if the Commerce Commission should not be setting maximum allowable profit and/or making sure that they are making investment in NZ (i.e. benefits society) and this is balanced against their operating expenses in a way which is applied across the industry consistently.
  
  Rather than just a blunt ‘$ TAX TAX TAX $’ there are already existing models of regulation, such as network utilities work under, which might be extended to supermarkets and banks so that they can make a good return to shareholders, expand domestically, be successful, but not take the piss around how much money they make compared to services they offer.
  
  I think something is worth considering here, as in a nuanced response to such excessive profits, but I cannot expect Labour to either roll anything out anytime soon, or not make it a shambles/fail on striking balance if they ever do.

Judith Curry has published argumentation from the author over the past year on her blog. The title is “Climate of the Past, Present and Future, by Javier Vinos.   Vinos shows conclusively that climate change is overwhelmingly related to natural causes and that the UN’s modelling predictions are “wildly extremist” (his words). You can get it on Kindle. The recent call for an “amnesty” for those (mainly on the left) who were the harshest in their demands for more punishments for those who dared oppose the covid narrative is dissected beautifully in this post.
It is US based and the author is interpreting this plea as a desperate action by the Democrats to cauterize the potential upcoming bloodbath in the midterms.

Recently an article began circulating stating that the pandemic pushers deserved amnesty for their actions over the last two years. This article was repeatedly shared in our community as a way of politely saying “How About No” to the author, and to illustrate that enough consequences from the vaccine are starting to emerge that the government has realized they may need to pivot to a new approach (which suggests additional issues from the vaccines will emerge in the future). From having thought this article over, my best guess is that this article was primarily targeted at assuaging the guilt of the left leaning voters who trusted their leaders on these vaccines and are not the most motivated to vote for them in the midterms (as the polling data presently indicates a landslide for the Republican party).

      The vaccine passes and mandates were as unjustified as they were immoral.
      The “vaccine” had extremely limited efficacy before it eventually becomes negative efficacy.

      How about this. An immediate halt to the vaccination program. All who lost their job via mandates to be reinstated with compensation for lost income plus damages. A genuine apology for the horrendous damage done to families and friendships. A genuine apology for the businesses destroyed.

I suspect that a massive recession is coming to New Zealand next year.

I believe that the government have created a wage-price spiral. $30 an hour for truck and bus drivers is just the start. Every other industry will follow, under the new Kommissar diktats. These insane employment laws will result in “essential workers” such as supermarket checkout staff receiving huge wage rises. Of course, all these increases will be lost with price increases. Benefits will also be increased, fuelling still more inflation.

This means interest rates will continue to rise, and the housing market will collapse.

By the next election, in October 2023, the economy will be a train wreck. Labour should be polling around 25%, I suspect.

My hope is that Cindy stands at the next election, and she is completely and utterly humiliated.

If Cindy resigns now, Labour will use the trick the Nazis used after WW1, where they claimed that they only lost because they were “stabbed in the back”.

Labour supporters will try claim they would have won with Cindy at the helm, and they were cheated by the legendary “far right”.

Cindy’s electoral demise must be public, categorical and complete. Socialist tears must flow in floods. The humiliation needs to be total. A new generation needs to be taught about the practical consequences of socialist dogma.

If this comes to pass, for the first time in my life, I will looking forward to watching Cindy’s expressions.

I’ll get the popcorn in.

  The whole immigration reset has been purely to restrict immigration to drive up wages by the government. When you see wage growth around 7% and now a supermarket offering 12%, you can see the effects.
  The supermarket union now saying the increase of 12% sets the benchmark for Fair Pay Agreements across the sector – Watch this space for some real cost increases in the near future.
  The unfortunate consequence of the governments plan to restrict immigration is the likely demise of a number of businesses, and that coupled with a likely recession next year, will bring many issues home to roost in election year. Serves them right.

Spare a thought for the Plan B guys.

At the height of the Covid mass hysteria, their reputations were trashed by “experts” such as Baker, Wiles, Hendy and Jackson.

It is beyond question now that our supposed “experts” were in fact charlatans, and the Plan B team were correct all along.

Anyone with half a brain now knows that New Zealand got its Covid response completely and utterly wrong.

However, since most people collaborated at the time with these policies, they are somewhat sheepish about calling out our politicians and our clown “experts”, for their illegal and vandalising approaches.

Plan B are owed an apology by the government, but Cindy will never give them one. She is a narcissist, and the prospect of losing face would be more than she could bear.

We shouldn’t move on from Covid, because we need to learn from our mistakes. The first step is to concede that we collectively got it all wrong.

For my part, could I have have done more to stop the mass madness?

I was extremely vocal in my opposition to the Covid fiasco from the beginning. I even donated to krazykiwi for the protest in Wellington.

Still, I could have opposed it all in even fiercer fashion. I take my share of the blame for perhaps the darkest period in our history. I failed to convince enough people that our zero Covid policies were actually insane.

If you had written a dystopian book before Covid predicting our governments policies, I would have probably said it was so far fetched as to be impossible. Yet it happened.

No one wants to own it any more. I can understand that. However, humility is important, or we will repeat the same mistakes again.

The absence of any mea culpa’s from zero Covid nutjobs is concerning, but unsurprising. Foolish pride prevents it.

After all, foolish pride is the deadliest of the deadly sins.

Ardern’s subsidised media has begun a diversion on the mortgage-rate squeeze.

The object: swing blame to banks, and away from those who caused the interest rate surge by their money printing– the Ardern Government and the Reserve Bank.

Stuff today has Morgan Godfery calling for a windfall tax on banks.

Otago University employs Godfery, a former trade union official, as a lecturer in entrepreneurship.

Here is Godfery in Stuff:

“If ANZ [the Australasian bank]is conscious about maintaining its social licence during a cost of living crisis it could deploy its profits to keep interest rate rises in check. It won’t do that. That means it’s up to the Government to act.”

Does Godfery know that a “social licence” is a theoretical construct, not some pass that an institution qualifies for?

What does Godfery want? Nationalisation of the NZ branch of an Australian bank? A targeted tax on Australian banks in NZ? Would he exempt the State’s own Kiwibank and other small local banks?

Meanwhile, Ardern’s finance wizard, Robertson, is also in Stuff talking social licences.

Stuff reports Robertson claiming banks’ social licence requires them to support borrowers if times get tough.

Where can we study details of this licence?

How about the “social licence” of a Government or a Reserve Bank? Do riotous printing of money and neurotic spending of taxes comply with their social licences?

  How dumb these people. Banks have a pretty simple core business model.
  
  The borrow money at x and they lend at x + margin.
  
  There have been many stories in the media highlighting the fact that the banks have squeezed their margins and not charged borrowers as much as they should have. However those margins are now being pushed out to what they have historically been, and thats fine. It will get worse when the cheap govenment funding (FLP I beleive) is removed in December.
  
  Banks have shareholders that want their dividends. Bank shareholders did not gamble in an inflated property market, the general public did, so why should banks subsidize gamblers.
  
  Or….should depositors who provide funds to banks to lend take a haircut so people can have cheaper mortgages.
  
  The answer is no to both. Banks have no obligations to borrowers of any kind to be nice when times get tough. Just like savers have no obligations to provide funds cheaply to banks to provide cheaper mortgages.
  
  The market is the market. It comes back to govenment borrowing fueling inflation. The banks are just getting the same percentage margin as they were before on the back of a higher interest rate (caused by inflation), and a much bigger pool of lent money (caused by stupidity and greed).

      The bank borrows money at lends it on again.
      However
      It’s not much good to them if enough of the poor sods who bought the houses can’t make the repayments that they start foreclosing on mortgages and wind up with overvalued houses on their hands.
      Everyone knew the ultra low mortgage interest rates wouldn’t last, but that was probably the main reason people could afford the outrageous cost of buying a house.
      The banks had to be restrained from making conditions too easy for people to get a loan plus increasing their buffer against bad debt.

3. In Jun 16, 2022 She tweeted, “So, as a vaccinated, boosted person, I’ve not been tested for Covid. Is it possible for me to be at this point? The Long Covid thing worries me, but also keep in mind that I’m a hypochondriac.”
4. In October 22 she posted, ” So I woke up with something that’s literally Black Hairy Tongue. People, including my doctor, seem to think it’s no big deal, and will go away soon, but it certainly is gross,” Powell shared in early October. Unfortunately, it seems that Powell’s doctor had dismissed her symptoms.” Apparently black hairy tongue is a covid symptom. So had she been having covid symptoms since june til october? But no test reported.
5. A series of tweets in early October shows she was really sick with covid like symptoms.

There is also this court case awaiting a judgement. A bunch of activist lawyers is seeking a determination by the courts that the Climate Change Commission is required to do more to meet “net zero”.

So we are in a situation where the Government has legislated for net zero by 2050. It is impossible to achieve and because current policy settings are insufficient, the Government is being sued for not complying with its own law.

And the National Party signed up for this! This thing has just started. Wait until 2030 when it will be obvious that net zero cannot be achieved. Even if we did it using international emissions trading, has it been costed?

So in summary, the Government is:

– adopting policies across the board to make New Zealand poorer (see farmers as exhibit #1)

– shipping $1.3 billion to developing countries

– considering signing up to a pledge to “compensate” developing countries for climate changed

– pledging net zero but being sued already for not being on track to meet the target.

Polling commissioned by the ACT Party and released exclusively to Newshub shows the National candidate – whoever it may be – in pole position.

It asked 400 Hamilton West voters, ‘while candidates for the by-election haven’t been announced yet, which party’s candidate are you most likely to vote for?’.

The results show 44.7 percent said they’d vote for the National candidate, 36.6 percent said they’d vote for Labour’s and just 2.5 percent said they’d vote for Dr Sharma.
