Maori Roll Option

Tariana is not happy that National is against the Maori option and Maori seats. I think this is one of those areas where you have to agree to disagree. Both parties won’t be changing thie rpositions anytime soon.

What I found interesting was Justice Minister Mark Burton’s response to the suggestion that canvassers would encourage Maori to go on the Maori roll. He said that was “nonsense”.

But the Minister is talking nonsense. In 2001 at least one and possibly two or more organisations last time were repreimanded or suspended for advocating that electors should transfer to the Maori roll. These were organisations receiving taxpayer money to promote the option.

I have no doubt that such antics will occur again. The only question is whether they will be exposed again.
