Dom Post on Working for Families
The Dom Post yesterday laid into the Working for Families package quite nicely. I won’t repeat the parts about the stupid ads showing a family with a $700,000 home and ipods getting welfare, but focus on the part which most concerns me:
Why bother when it doesn’t greatly matter whether you earn $38,000 or $60,000? The state will make up most of the difference.
This is the worst part of the the package. Labour have succeeded where the USSR failed. They have equalized salaries for families with kids. With marginal tax and abatement rates at around 90% the difference between being on $38,000 and $60,000 is only around $45 a week if you have a couple of kids.
