Prison Numbers

I just love the thinking we are seeing with prison numbers. First we have a Minister saying we should stop sending some criminals to jail so we don’t have to build more prisons (There can be good reasons to not jail a criminal, but saving money on prisons is not one of them).

Now we have the Government “concerned plans to bolster police numbers may push the new prison muster forecast higher”.

So following on from their logic on not jailing criminals to save money, should we conclude it is also logical to not catch criminals to save money?
