So says John Cleese after staying there. Just as well they didn’t take him to Wanganui also!!

Meanwhile NZPA’s Belinda McCammon has helpfully catalogued a list of other high profile visitors who have been less than complimentary:

* In 1965 Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards called Invercargill”the arsehole of the world”.

* Last year former England rugby hooker Brian Moore compared Invercargill to Chernobyl.

* Courtney Love has slammed her former town of Nelson

* Charles Darwin in 1860 said “I believe we were all glad to leave New Zealand. It is not a pleasant place.”

I think comparing Invercargill to Chernobyl is unfair – to Chernobyl. Chernobyl gets better and better to live in every year while Invercargill ….. 🙂
