John Profumo is dead
John Profumo has died aged 91. He is infamous for his part in the scandal named after him – the Profumo Affair. He did a Benson-Pope and lied to Parliament, eventually bringing down the Government.
Iain Dale makes the point that he also did much good in his life – not least of all being one of 41 brave Tory MPs who crossed the floor in May 1940 to vote no confidence in their own Government. This led to Winston Churchill replacing Neville Chamberlain as the UK Prime Minister.
