Business Tax Cuts

Peter Dunne is very excited over the tax changes just approved by Parliament. He breathlessly calls the $1.1b of tax “cuts” over four years as “the most comprehensive business tax cuts for nearly two decades”.

Now anything is better than nothing and this package is not without some merit.

However to put things in perspective the total crown revenue over the next four years is projected to be $295 billion.

So this tinkering lowers total crown revenue by 0.3% approx. It’s a bit like if you are on a $40,000 salary and your boss gives you a $3/week pay rise.
