Rudy for President?
Andrew Sullivan in The Times observes that as Rudy Giuliani is now mentioning Jesus Christ in his speeches, it is a sure sign that he is going to stand for President – seeking the Republican nomination.
Giuliani currently polls 81% approval from Republicans but most cruically 63% approval from Independents. To contrast John McCain does almost as well with Independents (57%) but only has 64% approval from Republicans themselves.
And in a further contrast you have Hilary Clinton who is beloved by her base as 82% approval yet she drops to only 48% approval from the crucial Independents.
The key to winning is to lock in your base yet also appeal enough to Independents.
