Jo Gaul – hero!
I have a new hero – Jo Gaul.
She got conned as part of a kitchenware scam where you pay more than $3000 for top German kitchenware and end up with cheap Chinese ones. Now of course the Police were too busy to like investigate fraud but that didn’t stop Jo.
She arranged to meet the con-man again and being a good horsewoman she made up some lassos. She then phoned back the Police to say she was going to catch the fraudsters and said
“I am going to try to get support from some Kiwi guys at the bar to cover the front and back door and if they make a run for it, we’ll tie them down”
The Police of course told her she is not allowed to do this. Now she was keen to go ahead saying “I would have used my handcuffs. I don’t find restraint intimidating. I’ve roped sheep and cattle before. They were characterless, sleazy men and that type are usually quite gutless.” but instead just took photos of the men and their car and handed the case over to the Police for prosecution.
What a great example of Kiwi can-do spirit and refusing to let either con-men or an apathetic police response stop her from getting her money back and bringing the crooks to justice.
