The Greens have asked for 50% of the Wellington transport funding for the northern access to go on a better train service.

They claim this will lead to 4,000 less cars a day on the road.

I’d love to see how they calculated that number (I suspect rolled a dice) as the local transport officials have predicted such a train upgrade will only lead to 100 less cars a day.

Oh wait I think I have worked it out. In a fit of intellectual firepower they have assumed that every single train would be full up, that these 4,000 motorists would just start using the trains if they were more frequent. Yeah Right

The reasons the Greens are wrong on almost every issue known to mankind is that they do not understand people and incentives. They fail to comprehend there are many reasons people want to have a car other than to get from work to home.
