False Allegations
Six men were arrested when a woman alleged they gang raped her. Now there was no dispute sex happened, and who would believe she had consented to sex with multiple partners she had not met before.
Luckily for the men though it was all captured on videotape, and it showed that not only was it consensual, but the woman was directing the action.
If the tape did not exist, I wonder if any jury would have refused to convict the six men.
Hat Tip: Dr Helen
Incidentially found in the comments is a post by Eugene Volokh on why false rape complaints can be a relatively large proportion of all complaints but that one still has a very very low (2%) percentage of women who would ever make a false allegation. Basically the maths is that very few women make false complaints but also relatively ‘few’ women get raped. Check out his maths.
UPDATE: Of course should also link to Dom Post story of the Kiwi serving 20 years in Cambodia on what now appears to be false allegations.
