Union over-stepping the mark
I’ve blogged recently that unions can do good stuff when they represent their members’ interest well with regard to employment issues.
On the flip side, is when a union arrogantly gives itself the right to decide on policy for NZ, instead of 2.5 million voters or their Parliament. The Maritime Union has announced its members (wonder if they even had a say in the decision) will refuse to work with any ship involved with Japanese Whaling.
Regardless of my personal views on whaling, I am appalled by this action. Basically the union is saying it will break the law and have its members refuse work their employer has agreed to undertake. It is clearly illegal, and extremely arrogant. Who appointed the Maritime Union as Foreign Minister?
