Telecommunications Review
Like several other industry bodies, InternetNZ is preparing a position paper on the NZ telecommunications framework and regulatory environment, which will go to the Minister by 31 January.
InternetNZ is keen to have input from interested stakeholders, who have empathy with InternetNZ’s broad philosophy of an open and uncapturable Internet for NZ, on the position paper so it reflects as wide-spread a consensus as possible. To this end consultation/discussion meetings have been arranged in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. If you are interested in attending one of these meetings, and would like a copy of the paper just let me know on david@farrar.com
The meetings are scheduled as follows:
Wellington
Wednesday 25 January at 6.00pm
InternetNZ, 9th Floor, Exchange Place
5 – 7 Willeston Street
Auckland
Thursday 26 January at 6.00pm
Marlborough Room 2
Sky City Convention Centre
Christchurch
Monday 30 January
Venue and time TBC
The paper covers, at a high level, issues such as local loop unbundling, community broadband networks, potential role of BCL in developing a broadband network, a wholesale/retail split for Telecom, Commerce Commission investigations, and a national fibre network.
