Canadian Election Coverage
One of the interesting aspects of the Canadian election has been the humourous and irreverent blog written by Blog Boy, or Steve Feschuk. Now what does Feschuk do when not blogging from his blackberry? He is Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin’s chief speechwriter!
The blog has become hugely popular and probably does more to put the Liberlas in a “not out of touch” light than most of their other ventures. I’d love to see campaign blogs by senior staffers on campaigns in NZ.
One classic part if when Feschuk is asked whether Martin just reads out whatever he is given, or if Martin edits his own speeches. Feschuk’s reply is:
Remember how much Gollum cared about the ring? Well, compared to the PM’s interest in speeches, Gollum lacked commitment.
Great stuff. Also worth checking out this blog by Conservative MP Monte Solberg. Also quite funny as he declares:
The Lib attack ads are so scary I’m going to have to sleep tonight with the light on. I mean what if Stephen Harper is hiding under my bed and then smothers me with a drycleaning bag and steals my remaining Burnt Almond to give to an ultra-conservative Bush Republican, who packs a pistol AND a Bible. No, even better, it’s a Bible machine gun. Yep, fires two hundred rounds a minute, and plays Amazing Grace at the same time. Perfect for huntin’ varmints, and personal protection.
The Liberal attack ads referred to are incredibly negative and featured here. This is pretty desperate stuff, but it may work. No-one can quite believe that the Conservatives are now 10% ahead with just over 10 days to go.
