Unconsentable vs Unaffordable

The Dominion Post says that it hopes the choice for improving access to Wellington is not between the unconsentable (wider SH1) and the unaffordable (Transmission Gully).

I think it is pretty close to exactly that.

Now in deciding which of these options is least unpalatable, I am reminded of a quote from Mr Kane of Kane & Abel in which he said in relation to which country to loan to that he would always pick the country which won’t pay the money back over the country which can’t pay it back.

The widening of SH1 is basically unconsentable and can’t be done. The cost of Transmission Gully is significant, but with commitment can be achieved.
