Travel this year
Despite the fact I hate plane travel, I’ve done a fair bit this year. Even if one is business class, I just hate being in a seat for 12 to 24 hours. The only thing worse than plane travel is bus travel.
I am growing to fall in love a bit with train travel, and never mind driving around. I just really really wish I could sleep on planes. Even on a one hour plane trip I get incredibly bored.
Anyway the one redeeming feature of plane travel is they do get you to other countries, and as someone with an intellectual curiousity about almost everything, it is nice to experience other places, even if it is sometimes just for half a day or so at the end of a conference.
This year has had me overseas more often than any other. Off memory I had:
* Apricot Conference in Kyoto, Japan for a week
* Brief visit to Cathy Odgers in Hong Kong en route to China
* UN/ILO/WB meeting in Beijing, China for five days
* Holiday with SO in Sydney for long weekend for four days
* ICANN Conference in Luxembourg for a week
* Brief visits post conference to France and Germany
* IDU Meeting in Washington DC, USA for five days
* Post-election holiday in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland for five weeks
* Stop-over in Tokyo en-route to Vancouver
* ICANN Conference in Vancouver, Canada for a week
* Observe the election campaign in Ontario, Canada with visit to Niagara Falls, USA for four weeks
I will still be blogging over the holidays, but recognising many people will be offline for a couple of weeks, best wishes to everyone who is taking a break.
