The CN Tower

On Saturday (Sunday NZ time) I did some sightseeing and as I was driving down near Toronto, I figured I should see what the view was like from the tallest free-standing building in the world – the CN Tower.

By pure coincidence the day I visited was the first day they were showing a new movie on how the tower was built, and I was the first person to view it so I got a free DVD of it.

The tower is 553 metres tall, and the top viewing platform is at 447 metres or 147 stories. This is the highest viewing platform of any tower. In comparison the Auckland Sky Tower viewing platform is at around 200 metres.

This shot of some tall office blocks gives you some idea of how very high up the tower is.

More photos after the break.

The lake on the other side of Toronto. Very beautiful.

Testing out my 10x zoom lens on one of the parks for a nice aerial shot.

This is taken through the glass floor on the glass viewing level. Looks a lot worse when you are actually there standing on it looking down.

And finally a display with some facts and figures.

Costs $20 or so to get in, but well worth it for the views, plus just being able to say you’ve been up one of the seven wonders of the modern world (well according to the American Architects Association).
