Peters on Foreign Affairs in 1996
The Listener has done well, digging up this quote from Winston Peters in 1996:
When this magazine asked him, before the 1996 election, if he would take the Foreign Affairs post, he was frank: “You could only assume that if you thought I was stupid.” At the time, he indicated that the portfolio was not very demanding. “After all, if Warren Cooper can be Minister of Foreign Affairs, anyone in New Zealand can be.”
Indeed, anyone can and is.
