The Dom Post in its editorial rips into the Ministry of Health for “failing managing public funds 101 badly”.

The hack bashing this one out can’t even get his facts right. Of the 60 contracts, more than 30 were under the $10k no-bid limit. And we are after all talking about the ultimately pathetic storm in a tea cup here; an average of $300k pa in a total health budget of $10Billion pa… 0.003% that may not have been contested strictly according to the rules. Nor did Brady find “any evidence of corruption or waste”…another little factoid our hack chose to omit from his rant.

Jeeze if this is the best evidence of corruption McCully can find then I am damm proud of how well our civil service works. And Poutasi hasn’t ducked the issue, she’s said that it wasn’t good enough and outlined exactly what has been , and is planned to be done to tighten contract management up .

Sorry guys but you aren’t going to get your resignation to slaver over on this one.

The usual suspects who wont understand the principles of good governance rush to defend the Socialists.Yawn Yawn. Why do we have to put up with the sloppy governance? Because most of the citizerns wouldnt know good governance if it smacked them in the face Thats why Pathetic

Poutasi seems to have taken no notice of her own internal chief auditor (so why waste money having one)who clearly foresaw the fraudulent shambles the Auditor General would be confronted with.Both auditors would be well aware that if we allow the laxity of the type Logix is always justifying we end up with the wroughts that has made multimillionaires of the Wetere whanau

Poutasi claims that the documents that the OAG wanted were not in any single coherent location, AND because the contract managment system dating back to 2001 was NOT in acceptable shape, it took significant time and effort to collate all the information required. And given that there was a little thing called an election in between, I guess any sane political manager of any stripe wouldn’t be pressing for urgency about completing the task.

On the scale of things this was a very modest little fuckup, compared to the Wananaga and Wetere being far more substantive matters. You will note that I have not commented at all about that matter because:

1. I think Mallard did make a mistake in allowing Wetere to grow the Wananga too rapidly, with insufficient oversight and attention to governance.

2. There has been an enormous amount of hypocritical crocidile tears from various parties about how they “didn’t want to actually harm the Wananga”.

3. Labour has responded substantially.

4. And you now have Wetere’s head on the platter.

hang on a minute — it is NOT possible to say from the Auditor-General’s report whether the public got value for money from the courses that TWOA purchased from Rongo Wetere’s daughter. the Auditor-General did NOT look into the educational value of those courses. i’m not defending the courses, and the whole scenario looks bad because it involves shoddy conflicts of interest etc etc. but we need to distinguish between the process and the product.

there has been a damning report about TWOA’s processes. but as far as i know there has been no report about the quality of the product.

we would be talking out of our assholes if we said that the public had NOT got value for money. if you can prove that we did or did not get value for money from TWOA, go right ahead. but as far as i know, there’s no evidence one way or another. (of course, TWOA or the Govt SHOULD be able to provide evidence, but that is another matter again).
