The Claytons Foreign Minister

It is becoming obvious that Winston has got the baubles of power, but no actual power. He seems to be heading towards becoming a Claytons Foreign Minister.

When anything important happens internationally, Helen is over it. She has a PR out on the Jordanian bombings, and there is nothing from Winston. Helen even refers to MFAT advice so is clearly working with them bypassing Winston.

Meanwhile Phil Goff as Defence (not Foreign) Minister has pronounced ANZUS as dead and irrelevant. This is a massive intrusion into foreiegn policy, and makes Winston’s pledge of improving US relations much harder by using such blunt language.

So what have they left Winston to do as Foreign Minister? He gets to meet Ambassadors and appoints them. That’s it!

Boy would I be pissed off if I was a NZ First MP.
