Select Committees

The full list of select committee memberships is out now. Interesting to look at on how many Labour and the Government has a majority.

Commerce – 9 members, Labour 4, Government 5 – safe

Education & Science – 10 members, Labour 4, Government 5 – could have some fun

Finance & Expenditure – 11 members, Labour 4, Government 6 – you never want this one without a majority

Foreign Affairs – 9 members, Labour 4, Government 4 – potential for somew fun but only if one can get Keith Locke to vote with National!

Govt Admin – 6 members, Labour 3, Govt 3 – the Govt won’t send anything too controversial here

Health – 12 members, Labour 4, Government 5 – this one may be very rocky for the Government, esp with Sue K chairing

Justice & Electoral – 8 members, Labour 3, Government 3 – also some potential to upset the Govt. Interesting that Russell Fairbrother is passed over for Chair to Lynne Pillay. Sounds like Helen wants him gone for losing Napier.

Law & Order – 7 members, Labour 3, Govt 4 – but as Ron Mark is swing vote, may be ugly for Govt.

Local Govt & Env – 9 members, Labour 4, Govt 4 – Jeanette F will generally vote with Govt though.

Maori Affairs – 8 members, Labour 3, Govt 4 – potentially very messy if Winston allows Pita Paraone to go with his conscience.

Primary Production – 8 members, Labour 4, Govt 4 – not usually controversial

Regs Review – 6 member, Labour 3, Govt 3 – usually bipartisan

Social Services – 12 members, Labour 4, Govt 5 – Nats & Act have six members so if they get Judy Turner with them, the Government can face some real issues

Transport & IR – 10 members, Labour 5, Govt 6 – should be safe for them

I would link to the full list of members, but I can’t see it online yet.
