Peters back to his old self
Winston Peters has a history over 20 years of allegations which range from wildy exagerrated to simply fabricated. Even as recent as this campaign he defamed an Iraqi who lives in NZ by falsely claiming he was formerly in Saddam’s presidential guard – no apology was ever made, or mistake even admitted to.
Now his latest nasty foray is his claim that if National keep picking on him and NZ First, he would reveal how “backers gave donations in exchange for a slice of state-owned companies if National won”.
Let’s be very clear about this. Peters is alleging corruption of the first order. Yet he says he will only reveal this corruption if National “potted” any of his MPs while he was away. A small step away from blackmail. If Peters really has even a shred of evidence on such an issue, he is obliged to refer it to the Police, not say I will keep it quiet unless you aren’t nice to me.
I should also point out that National’s policy this election had (sadly) almost no sale of SOEs at all. A minority float of Solid Energy and a few Landcorp farms.
