It’s back

Just when we thought the nasty little party hopping law was dead and buried it came back into Parliament yesterday as a present for Winston from Labour.

Even though the law proved useful in getting rid of Donna Awatere-Huata, it flaws do not exceed its benefits. Donna would have gone anyway when convicted. The legislation gives far too much power to party leaders to evict dissident MPs from Parliament and Peters is obviously worried about his own caucus.

Labour have agreed to vote for it, but NZ First and Labour/Prog only have 58 votes. It needs the Maori Party or United Future to vote for it to make it to select committee. Let’s hope they don’t.
