Dom Post lets loose

The Dominion Post shows its displeasure at Winston Peters accusing media who criticise him as treasonous by labelling him the “Sun King of Tauranga” and suggesting that if Zimbabwe had not been made unwelcome at CHOGM, Peters and Mugabe could swap notes on what constitutes treason and how to deal with disloyal media.

While most people back home are laughing at Peters, and treating the issue as a joke (or the Minister as one anyway), it is worth reflecting on how this looks overseas. I mean if I read in a newspaper that a senior Minister is threatening the media with treason charges, I tend to think banana republic. And the story has already made Australian media.
