Bolton Hotel
The Bolton Hotel is only a few months old, so I had never dined there before, but had a very nice meal there last night. It’s quite expensive, and the portions aren’t huge, but the quality is generally excellent.
The enduring moment though was the lovely young waitress who asked at dessert time whether we would like champagne. We said we’d prefer dessert wine. She asked again, and then even mentioned it was on a special that night at only $10/glass. This was pretty good value as the bottle was normally $160 or so, but we still were keener on dessert wine. The waitress then confessed in hushed tones that the reason the champagne was so cheap was because she had accidentally opened it, instead of a $20 bottle another table had earlier ordered. I had to stop myself from laughing at this point. The poor girl looked so upset.
It sounded like she was going to have the cost of the bottle taken off her wages, so as she had been so nice during the meal we quickly decided that we would after all drink champagne, and indeed ordered the entire bottle.
So we got to have a $160 bottle for $50, and the waitress has a less pissed off boss. That’s what I call a win-win.
