The NZ Herald has a strangely compelling first hand account of a New York mugging. Very well written.

Goddam, they didn’t have to shoot the bastard over a bloody ipod! I’d prefer a mugger to get away than for him to be shot dead for his crimes!

This story can not have happened – handguns have been illegal in New York since the Sullivan Law of 1911. The writer must have imagined it, since it is clearly impossible.
As for the mugger getting shot – can’t se eany problem with that. No repeat offending there. Maybe he should have got a safer line of work, or surrendered when asked.

It really is getting dumber in here, isn’t it?

‘The gun was in fact a fake 9mm pellet gun, we discovered later.

See – Darwin’s theory reinforced again. Only a really really really thick jerk would risk death for a poxy iPod. Too dumb to think that one through, and paid the price.

You didn’t read the article – the “Handgun” was in fact a slug gun that looked like the real deal.

dim and stc have already pointed out one stupid aspect of this comment (it was actually a fake gun)

the second is this: just because hand guns are illegal doesn’t mean they don’t exist in NY. duh.

cos making something illegal is an infallible method of prevention. yeah right.

Handguns are not been illegal in NY. You do however need a permit.
The guy looks a patsy for any mugger. He sees 3 people he fears ahead and still carries on walking towards them? I can’t believe it!
