The VC did pick this one wrong. You almost certainly can’t win an argument with student media, god knows I’ve tried in the past, and certainly not by injuncting it – even if you believe you have legitimate grounds. PR disaster!

One negative to flow from this is however, the likely pressure on student representatives on Councils. Councils would like to rid themselves of representatives, particularly of staff and students, and leaks like this will fuel their argument.

If I was Sailent’s advertising manager I would be a very happy person. Lost of free exposure for the remainder of the academic year.

What, all one more issue of it? And advertisers who wanted to advertise events on Monday through Wednesday aren’t going to be terribly impressed. But then again, I am very happy to not be Salient’s advertising manager, so perhaps I am wrong.

Some enterprising blogger should look into the membership of the finance committee to try and identify possible sources of the leak.

Paul – that sounds like you are assuming the leak came from the student rep. I’ve not seen an indication of that.

Those student rags just keep on getting that publicity. Jolly good, look forward to more fun from them. The mainstream media are hopelessly manipulated by the Labour Government.

DPF – yeah I’ve done my time on more than a few uni committees including Council and been involved in the national scene on a few more national committees… In my experience any leak will be blamed on students, with or without evidence, and be used to support the argument that they shouldn’t be on these committees in the first place…
