Retail Hours

The Retailers Association is consulting on whether retailers would prefer to open and close later with the suggestion being to go from 0900 – 1730 hours to 1000 – 1830 hours.

Personally I think it is a good idea as it gives people time to buy stuff after work.

The only thing that puzzles me is that it is being talked about as if it is an industry wide decision. I presume each individual retailer or retail maill can decide their own hours, and already some stay open later than others. The bottom line is if it will lead to enough of an increase in sales to cover the cost, then retailers will probably do it.
