Merkel 1st female German Chancellor

The deal’s been done and Angela Merkel has become the first female head of government of Germany. I think she is the first head from former East Germany also.

The SDP has driven a hard bargain though (they should give Peter Dunne some lessons) and get eight Ministries including foreign affairs, reform, employment, health, transport and finance.

She seems a tough cookie. Her party is against Turkey being admitted to the EU, and her response to the US (which supports it) was that the United States should first take in Mexico as a state 🙂

Also found some obscure facts about her, including that she once co-authored an article called “Nonempirical parameter estimate for the statistical adiabatic theory of unimolecular fragmentation carbon-hydrogen bond breaking in methyl”!
