Dissension in the ranks
The NZ Herald is reporting that NZ First President Doug Woolerton has resigned in protest at Peters breaking their election promise and accepting Foreign Minister in a Labour led Government.
Now this is huge if true. Doug Wollerton has been known as the most loyal Winston person there is. This is not like Tau Henare disagreeing – this is Winston’s longest serving most loyal organisational person.
The Dominion Post also reports that it is looking more likely Dunne will also accept a Ministerial role.
So a Labour-Progressive-NZ First-United Future coalition Government will have 61 votes. They will also have the Greens on confidence and supply for 67 votes.
One almost has to feel sorry for the Greens. By not being in Government, they may struggle to show relevance at the next election. Any policy gains they claim will be minuscule compared to what NZ First seem to have wrenched out of Labour.
If this gets confirmed in the next few days I look forward to all the Labour blogs celebrating Winston as a Minister again.
