Blaming Don again
Russell Brown quotes from Anthony Trenwith on the Foreshore & Seabed Act. He says:
The problem with the F&S Act is simply that it was rushed (and not to mention wholly unnecessary) legislation brought about by a kneejerk reaction on the part of the government to Don Brash’s own speech at Orewa.
Except that the Te Arawa decision occured in June 2003, and the Government’s kneejerk decision to change the law happened a few days later.
Don Brash did not become National Party Leader until November 2003, and Orewa was in January 2004. So to portray the Government’s decisions as a reaction to Orewa is just making excuses.
