Where’s the oil?
Keith Ng, in between poking some sticks at me, digs out this quote from Trevor Mallard:
Mallard suggested that that major changes in student loan policies were only likely to happen “if the country struck oil, and we were guaranteed economic security for the next 50 years”. In the meantime: “I want to keep improving things but it will be at the margins rather than a massive change
I think this illustrates well the sheer desperation of being behind in the polls which led to this reckless promise. I mean is there a single person alive who think Labour would be doing this, if their May budget had not been an own goal? If not, then that suggests they themselves know it is a very bad idea.
