Treaty Deadlines

Regardless of whether he becomes PM or not, Don Brash has had an extraordinary impact on the next Government with Labour due to announce today that they have signed up to a deadline for filing treaty claims – something they called him a racist for advocating at Orewa.

Labour have also flip-flopped on race based funding, and their student loans policy would never have come about if it were not Dr Brash leading in the polls.

However one has to ask the question on this policy. How many seconds will it survive in negotiations with the Maori Party? I’d predict somewhere between one and two seconds. After all dumping a policy you don’t actually believe in is an easy thing to do.
