DC Day I
Got into Washington DC around 2 pm Sunday and headed straight to the Harrington Hotel where I was staying. The hotel is very cheap ($100/night) and very central (two blocks from White House) but as one expects for that price is fairly run down. Facilities would be two stars I would say.
DC, like Europe, is very hot. But Europe was dry while the humidity here is almost as bad as Singapore gets. Not at all comfortable and even stays hot and humid at midnight.
My friend Helen (from Estonia) is staying at the main hotel for the IDU meeting. A great website tells you not just which metro underground train to take, and what stations to get on and off at, but even gives you walking instructions to find the closest local metro. Therefore I manage to get to the Omni Shoreham very quickly.
While waiting for Helen in the foyer, I suddenly realise I know the guy sitting opposite me from previous IDU meetings. Ask him what he is up to now, and upon being told is now Foreign Minister for Norway, I am glad I didn
