Around Luxembourg
Went into the conference centre today to register and orientate ourselves. It is normally used by the EU so is huge. One room has 250 desks with a phone at each desk. Will take some photos tomorrow.
Went to the shopping mall next door for lunch. Was very amusing as the waiter could not (or did not) speak any English at all, until the very end when Keith asked me if she should add 10% on as a tip, and the waiter who was walking past replies “yes”. Typical French type attitude.
The mall had a huge supermarket where we stocked up on various supplies to reduce the hotel costs. The staff actually get around on roller blades, it is that big. Could you imagine what OSH would do back home with such an employer – think of the safety risks!
Finally headed back to the hotel. We assumed that using the official shuttle would mean the driver would know where the hotel is, especially as city is fairly small (80,000). But despite even showing him the name and address in the booklet he had no idea and took 30 minutes of driving around the city until I recognised a landmark and navigated from there.
Meeting later today the MFAT staffer who is representing the Government, and planning strategy for the week. The recent announcement by the US Government that they will not hand over control of the root zone, means there will be a huge amount of lobbying go on, ranging from those who want the UN to run the Internet to those who want no Governments involved at all.
