Tax Relief
Useful article in the NZ Herald detailing that National has confirmed all working New Zealanders will get tax relief, which will be passed into law before Christmas, to come into force from 1 April.
I presume (but have not checked) that as welfare benefits are calculated as net, not gross, payments that those people not in work will not be affected by any change to the tax scale. After all, the tax paid, is from one branch of Government to another.
When Dr Cullen calls tax relief “reckless and unaffordable” I guess he hasn’t noticed the $8 billion surplus. You know it won’t go away by just pretending it isn’t there.
