One News Poll on Tax
One News had a Colmar Brunton poll on tax.
With regard to Labour’s miserly budget tax changes, 13% say this made them more likely to vote National, and 7% more likely to vote Labour. That is a net 6% gain for National, which sounds about right with what we see in the polls.
I’m not quite sure how they worded the question, but they also reported that 51% said tax cuts could be funded through eliminating government waste, and 49% [42% actually] I think said from surpluses.
The surpluses are certainly what will fund the majority of any tax relief, in my opinion. But if getting rid of waste can get a few less dollars a week taken off taxpayers, all the better.
