A silly thing to do
Labour learnt that Auckland business groups were planning to campaign on the lack of progress on roading, and a draft strategy included having a website called www.revupthegovt.co.nz
The business groups had not yet registered the domain, as the strategy was only draft, so Labour went and registered it. Technically registered to David Talbot who bizarrely is the candidate for Clutha-Southland, yet lives in Wellington!
Oh wait, now all is clear – his biography says he works for Marion Hobbs.
Now such a move is really very very silly. It will totally piss off the business groups, such that where they may not have proceeded with the campaign, they now may. But also it will be ineffective as there are dozens of other domains they could use for their campaign.
Personally the ethics of grabbing a domain, on the basis of a leaked document outlining its planned use by another group, is very dubious.
