The Tamihere saga just gets sadder. It just reinforces the continuing decline in judgement.

I do think that people who abandon their pets are terrible – and I wonder what other responsibilities they so glibbly ignore. Whether or not he intended to return for them, and whether or not it’s understandable why one might be tempted to run and hide from ginger cats, it’s just stupid, and well, mean.

That said, do we see an outcry like this every time someone abandons their pet? Would we see it now if it wasn’t an election year and this wasn’t an MP already in the headlines for being silly and naughty? Not to make light of it in any way, because I’d kick the bugger in the shins if I could, but I really do resent this becoming a political issue, when people are abandoning and mistreating their animals all the time. We don’t see their faces in the paper.

And if we did, I’d hope it was to serve as a warning to other stupid people, not as another opportunity to point out their past indiscretions. He should face the consequences of his actions, and if a written warning is what other people get in this situation, then that’s what he deserves. And a kick in the shins.

I lost all respect and regard for him over the Investigate article. I absolutely detest the man now.

I don’t understand why people get pets if they have no fondness or compassion toward them.

I blame his wife too.

I’d like to point out that Mr. Tamihere voted for the last round of legislation increasing penalties for mistreatment of animals. He’s all in favour of banning so-called ‘dangerous’ dog breeds. Oh, and incidentally he wants us to believe he’s a fit and proper person to get his feet back under the Cabinet table.

Well, if he can’t get his shit together enough to move TWO cats from one part of West Auckland to another – let alone ensuring they’re fed, healthy and neutered – how is he hacking being an MP?

Craig, I was already aware of that. 🙂 As I said “He should face the consequences of his actions, and if a written warning is what other people get in this situation, then that’s what he deserves.” If what he is facing is not the regular response then THAT should be addressed. I’m not suggesting he get away with anything, only that he doesn’t get any special treatment (and questioning why he’s getting special publicity, other than the fact it’s an election year), whether harser or softer.

And I’d think it was fairly obvious that he isn’t really hacking being an MP. 😉

Ginger cats are my favourite – but I may be biased. I own a beautiful ginger cat, and I happen to be a red head myself.
