You know, the amazing thing is that you read the transcript, and he comes off as entirely reasonable. A few opinions are beyond the pale – holocaust, “unhealthy and violating”, etc. But it’s nothing you wouldn’t hear down at the pub after a few pints. And its not like he’s on the wrong side of the opinion – he just feels that everything has been pushed too far. This is a man who just feels incredibly frustrated by a PC mindset gone way way too far.

Yes, he’s an idiot as a politician if he thinks he can get away with abusing his fellows in the party. The amazing thing is the degree to which he was castigated in the media for it.

The media overreaction sent him in a tailspin, and probably the pressure did him in – I blame that for the cats…

At the end of the day, I just think… Poor guy.

I think it is a brilliant interview and should have been published unexpurgated.It is difficult to relate the honest straightforward views of Tamihere with the fudging dishonesty of events surrounding the Waipirera Trust. It certainly raises the standing of Tamihere in my estimation and I hope he gets back in, for Parliament would be the worse for his absence.

Many of the questions in the interview are leading ones. Wishart obviously played the guy, although it is still no excuse for what he said, he’s a politican and should have been suspicious of Wishart.
Tamihere should have resigned.

Regardless of what he says, if you believe in his point of view or not, a mans character is his fate, and to abandon pets speaks volumes. His actions in this regard makes everything else a moot point for me.

Possibly the main character JT assassinated in his interview was his own.
