Massive support for V8 street race

The WCC has announced that it received over 12,000 submissions on the proposed street race, and a massive 85% were supporting the race. This must be a record on any local body proposal of recent times.

Normally a proposal only attracts submissions from those opposed to it. It is really almost unheard of to have 85% in favour. Incidentally many public polls have also shown support for the proposal.

The Council has also sensibly amended its proposal to move the route to just north of the CBD as this will make for better racing and cause less disruption. This means a delay of a year as they work through resource consent. But will be great to have another major event in Wellington along with the Sevens, the Festival, various world champs etc.
