Deborah Coddington retiring
Deborah Coddington has announced she is retiring from Parliament this year. It is always a pity when an MP retires after only one term. I think one gets the best value when an MP serves at least three terms, or nine years. Likewise I quite like the idea of term limits of say six terms so people do not see it as a job for life, but that they have 18 years in which to make a contribution to make NZ better, and then time to move on.
Deborah had great potential, but never fully realised it. I think some of the sideshows proved very distracting. However at the end of the day she is standing down for the best of reasons, like Ian Ewen-Street, because she wants time with her new partner.
