Bribing the Elderly
As I previously blogged, I am appalled that NZ First is pledging to increase the cost of superannuation, when all the forecasts are showing even the current scheme is unsustainable. It is a total betrayal of future generations just for the sake of a bit more party vote. Helen Clark rightly says “I have to say that what NZ First is promoting is fundamentally damaging to NZ Super.”
New Zealand has the most generous public superannuation scheme in the entire world. The grievance mentality of Grey Power should be resisted. As a former National Social Welfare Minister once told them “If you can find another country’s scheme you prefer, then let me know and I’ll implement it as it will save us money”.
Peters has now gone even further and is promising that older people will receive fare discounts and lower line costs for phone, power, rates and gas.
This is Muldoon style communism as one would be directing private companies to dsicriminate on the basis of age. In fact I predict it would never ever gain more than 20 votes in Parliament, but Peters does not care as long as he can con Grey Power.
Unfortuntately it is working. Grey Power is urging its members to vote for New Zealand First, United Future or Progressive, as they are the ones prepared to sell out NZ’s future for an extra vote or two.
