I am surprised the media print stories of child poverty and never fail to do basic comparisons.

The first family mentioned, of Mrs Chan, is entitled to state support of $512 a week. This annualises to $26,719 a year net or to compare to a normal tax paying family is equivalent to $33,617. So paying almost $35,000 a year for a solo mother with two children is poverty???
