Te Wananga o Aotearoa

In just five years, Labour has increased funding for Te Wananga o Aotearoa from $8 million to $239 million. One should recall this when we are told no money for tax cuts.

I reported yesterday that some of this money was spent on sending NZ students to Queensland to do a security guard course. I was wrong – in fact they were offering to pay fees, flights, accommodation, apparel and for passports for Queensland students to come to NZ!!

The wananga offered free laptop computers for one course and expensive tracksuits and backpacks to other students. No wonder they have such a surge in enrolments when you can get a free laptop by enrolling etc.

This is just another version of the Christchurch Polytechnic $15 million CD scam. It proves that Government policy in this area has been fatally flawed. Over the last five years it is quite possible the amount of money gone into courses of dubious value is over one billion dollars.

But hey it is our money, not theirs, so why worry.
