NCEA blame game

The NCEA blame game has started and the Government seems to have selected the NZQA Chief Executive. This of course may not be unreasonable.

A document has emerged showing the scholarship problems were raised at the Secondary Principals and Leaders Forum last August. If these made their way to the Minister, and were ignored, it will not be pretty for the Minister.

Audrey Young also has a good article on the issue, pointing out:

When they [Mallard and Benson-Pope] were alerted to a great variation in pass rates between subjects, their response was to invent two new sets of awards – like giving a patient candy to cure concussion.

It was a knee-jerk action and was evidence that they had no confidence in the outcome of the exam.
