NZ gets a mention
The best reports on what is really happening with the disaster relief effort have been coming from The Diplomad – a blog put together by an ever growing number of anonymous diplomats, which is incredibly undiplomatic.
Most of the relief to date has been done by the military, especially US and Australia. NZ has just had a mention for the first time so it is great to see our efforts are being noticed.
It is no surprise that the military are at the forefront, as relief is mainly about logistics, and this is what armies survive or die on. The US now has 13,000 troops involved in the relief effort. China, despite 5 times the population and being local has 35.
