Foreign Drivers
The Waikato Times reports that the son of a woman killed in a Thames accident wants foreigners banned from driving on our roads.
While I would probably feel the same way if it had happened to my family, it is unfortunately not something we should do.
Almost every country around the world lets foreigners drive if they have a drivers licence in their home country. We would have a huge decrease in tourists if we become the only country where tourists can not drive.
The only real long-term solution is harmonising road rules around the world. But converting New Zealand to driving on the right hand side would be a very long and painful process, especially with almost all our cars being designed for driving on the left.
